The Perrin Post
Travel editor Wendy Perrin's blog on Concierge.com is full of family travel deals, but tune in for her wonderfully written travel reviews and guides. Whether she's ziplining with her kids in the Caribbean or telling stories of changing diapers in an Italian piazza, this blog is an engaging read for families on the move.
This site's real strength is its simplicity. Bare bones lists of attractions organized by destination are a breath of fresh air, and there's a fun, added quirk. Each destination comes with a reading list for kids, so you can conjure your vacation with stories and pictures in your kids' imaginations before you even get off the ground.
Federal Aviation Administration: Flying With Children
We had to include it. Bookmark it now and keep it handy, because if you ever have to travel with a kid, you'll be checking out this page. Featuring the latest in federal travel regulation as it applies to families with children, you'll find everything you need to know about putting kidstuff -- from breast milk to baby teethers—on an airplane.
The Universal Packing List
It's not a pretty site. But I say that with love, because The Universal Packing List makes up for its lack of design sensibility with pure usefulness. Simply enter the dates you'll be traveling, the approximate temperature at your destination and the ages of the children you're traveling with and the site generates a packing list for you. Brilliant!
Family on Bikes
Let's be real. You'll probably never do this. But that doesn't mean that you won't love reading about a family that did. The Vogel family -- mom, dad and twin 10-year-old boys -- are biking the Pan American Highway, the series of roads that snakes from Alaska to the southernmost tip of Argentina. When the journey is complete, the boys will enter the Guiness Book of World Records as the youngest cyclists ever to have completed the route, but that's just a footnote to this incredible trip. The family is about halfway to their destination and is blogging all the way. Read and be inspired.
