What they do: People who rely on food donations rarely have access to fresh produce. According to AmpleHarvest.org, that’s one out of six Americans -- including one-quarter of all kids under six -- who go without fresh fruits and vegetables. AmpleHarvest.org’s goal: to reduce malnutrition and hunger in the U.S. by connecting backyard gardeners and food pantries all across the country.

How you can help: Grow food for others. Gardeners with a surplus of produce don’t have to pawn their extra tomatoes off on coworkers or eat bruschetta for a week straight. You can share your bounty with people in need by donating it to participating food pantries. Go to AmpleHarvest.org and type in your zip code to find a local drop-off.
