This may seem like a no-brainer, but people forget to do it all the time. “Smiling really does make you seem friendlier,” says Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, which just came out in paperback. "[And] people catch emotions from each other, so if you’re smiling, you’re more likely to get a smile back, which can set the perfect stage for a first friendly conversation." Bonus: Research shows that the act of smiling can actually lift your mood. So, even if you're feeling a little down that day, it's worth trying to slip on a smile--especially if it means you'll get one back. You'll make yourself feel better as well as those around you.
