chime in nowGot a friend or relative who's expecting? Welcome her baby (and have some fun yourself!) with one of these cute, creative baby shower themes -- with everything from pretty-chic themes to tattoos to French décor, these fun idea can work for any type of mama-to-be. (And we promise -- no overly-done, terribly cutesy baby stuff that she'll probably roll her eyes at!)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The classic children's book is a great source of bright colors, sweet paper goods and cute bug-themed treats. Adapt the cups of milk or orange juice into cocktails and mocktails, but keep this dessert table!
Décor: Since real bugs on the table aren't a great idea, focus on the strong, graphic elements of the story. Mini Chinese lanterns (like these, here) in a grass-filled planter make a statement-making centerpiece. You can accent it with a bright polka-dot table runner that’s easy to DIY from the fabric store (just buy and snip to the length of your table). While you could serve actual fruit, we like an overflowing dessert table with fruit-inspired treats much better! Try making a centerpiece cake with a caterpillar topper and then surround it with red sugar-sprinkled cupcakes and fruit-shaped cake pops to give it the garden-like feel. For a take-home gift bag, put Runts in a bag with a personalized note.
Cute Idea: Mold rice krispie treats into fruit shapes (flatten and cover with rolled fondant for color) and use a small round cookie cutter to cut out the caterpillar's hole. It'll make your guests just as hungry as the caterpillar.
