chime in nowNose-picking is pretty gross and pretty common. But beyond being icky, is it a real problem? “Nose-picking involves a small risk of introducing germs to the nose, but the larger risk is spreading germs to other kids,” says Andrew Adesman, M.D., author of Baby Facts: The Truth about Your Kid’s Health from Newborn through Preschool.
What to do: Ask your kid to use a tissue and then wash his hands. Remind him if he must pick, he needs to do it in private. Allergies, air conditioning or heat may also cause your child’s nose to feel dry and congested, so use a humidifier or saline nasal spray to relieve symptoms, which may reduce your child’s need to pick, says Adesman. Don't stress too much --kids eventually outgrow nose-picking.
