About them: Fifth Harmony (formerly 1432 and LYLAS) consists of five teen girls who were eliminated from the competition as solo artists, but were asked to stay on and compete as a girl group. (That now-ubiquitous boy band, One Direction, was created the same way two years ago on the UK version of The X Factor.) After the just-formed group sang Shontelle's "Impossible," Cowell and guest mentor Marc Anthony appeared to be stunned speechless. "I don't know what you expected," Anthony spluttered. "It's gone somewhere else," Cowell interjected. "That was unbelievable."

Why they got cut: They have the look, they have the voices, but they just couldn't score a win. After a festive performance of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," the girls bid the competition adieu. In our eyes, they are winners -- hard-to-please Simon Cowell believed in them from the very beginning!
