Who doesn’t love a weekend trip to Costco? Let’s face it, buying in bulk is fun. But you may not be saving as much as you think.
“Buying in bulk can be financially efficient, but only if you are certain that you will use the product in a timely fashion,” says David M. Reiss, M.D., a psychiatrist in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. “Beyond the fact that the savings disappear if everything purchased is not used, buying in bulk involves more effort in finding and organizing storage for a product that is not immediately needed. Although these stresses and frustrations may be minor, they can easily outweigh the benefits of the savings.”
