Last week we reported on Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad, the two newest women joining the Saturday Night Live crew for the upcoming season.
Well, with the addition of Slate and Pedrad means two women are unfortunately departing the show.
Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson were fired from SNL as a result.
Watkins was a mid-season addition last year and was shocked by her firing. Watkins told Entertainment Weekly she didn't know what SNL creator Lorne Michaels was thinking when he made the move.
"I don't think anyone knows what Lorne Michaels was thinking," said Watkins "That's one of the exciting things about him. If he were to vanish the show would just freeze. Not a single thing would be shot because so much hinges on him."
Watkins was one of the bright spots on the show after the political satire cooled down following the election. Even with the firing, Watkins feels that Slate and Pedrad will be "exquisite."
Wilson joined SNL in February 2008 and was best known for her impressions of Jennifer Aniston and Rachael Ray.
Before joining SNL, Wilson was a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and has appeared in films Bride Wars and Julie and Julia.
Slate and Pedrad will have some big shoes to fill but I'm confident the two new women of SNL will do great when the show debuts Sept. 26 on NBC.
