2. Spend Less Than $1 a Pound

Contrary to the popular belief, you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a healthy diet. Yeager points out that many of most nutritious foods—whole grains, beans, root vegetables—cost less than $1 a pound. The trick, he says, is to shop the lower end of the food chain. "I'm not saying turn into a vegetarian, but can you go vegetarian a day or two a week. You'll save a lot of money and probably be healthier," says Yeager.
