WATCH: Channing Tatum Goes Undercover in '21 Jump Street' Red-Band Trailer

Tatum shows off his comedy chops, and Jonah Hill flaunts his new physique in the raunchy trailer for the film based on the hit '80s TV show

World, it's time to meet Jonah Hill: action hero. The red-band trailer for 21 Jump Street shows the 27-year-old actor tackling his first physically challenging role -- and depicts the major weight loss that enabled Hill to do so. Judging by the preview, the film also gives costar Channing Tatum a chance to showcase those comedy chops fans haven't seen since 2006's She's the Man. (Yes, his muscles will also get their due.) So clearly there's plenty to look forward to in this film. Watch the red-band trailer below!

21 Jump Street is the modern-day remake of Fox's hit '80s TV series, which starred a young Johnny Depp as a cop who went undercover as a high-school student to crack down on drugs and gang violence. While this big-screen adaptation maintains a similar premise, it's definitely looking like more of a traditional comedy than a gritty drama.

In the update, Tatum and Hill play two baby-faced cops sent to pose as students at a local high school in order to figure out who is dealing a new synthetic drug there. But their unconventional methods of ferreting out the dealers -- as per the trailer, they throw a drug- and alcohol-laden party to try to root out the perpetrators --  don't exactly please their superior (played by Ice Cube).

The movie, which was written by Hill, has plenty of fun playing around with the fact that it's a remake. In the movie, the police are bringing back a "cancelled undercover program from the '80s," an obvious reference to the original television series. And, though 21 Jump Street takes place in the present day, it is clear that its characters are uncomfortable with the present technologies. Ice Cube's comments about the "Twittersphere" and "Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber-looking mother f***ers" are just some of the winks to the fact that this movie is a remake by people who loved the original show.

The one thing the red-band trailer is missing (that probably won't be shown in any of the promotional material for the movie, in all honesty) is a look at Depp's cameo. It has been rumored that the 48-year-old superstar actually has a pretty substantial role in the remake -- so it will be interesting to see if the movie tries to use that angle to market it to older audiences.
