Neil Patrick Harris is getting ready to take on his biggest role yet -- as a father to twins -- and he's doing as much research for the part as possible.
"I'm trying to read as much as I can, and prep as much as I can," Harris, 37, told Ryan Seacrest on the Emmys red carpet Sunday night. "But there's only so much you can do because each baby is super individual and totally their own person."
Harris recently announced that he and his longtime partner, David Burtka, were expecting two new additions, via surrogate, this fall.
"[I'm] very, very excited," the How I Met Your Mother star said. "It's the big, crazy calm before the ridiculous storm."
The in-demand actor, 37, already seems to have his priorities in check, telling Seacrest that it was time to put his career aside to concentrate on his personal life -- and suggested he do the same!
"Life goes on, Ryan," he said. "If you wait until you're not working to have a family, we might be waiting a while."
Seacrest, who's dating former Dancing With the Stars beauty Julianne Hough, joked back: "Tonight, I should start trying."
