Take a Risk

Jump out of an airplane. Ride a roller coaster. Bare all at a nude beach. Or just go to a party solo. The idea is to do something you’ve never done before, that may even scare you a bit. Coming through an intimidating experience unscathed -- even a relatively low-risk drink alone at a bar -- is like a shot of steroids to your confidence. “When we take risks and overcome obstacles, we gain confidence that we’ll be able to handle things the next time we face an obstacle,” says Amy Tang, author of A Playdate With Destiny: Turning Daring Risks, Subtle Setbacks and Painful Disappointments Into A Fun-Filled Adventure. Makes sense. Once you’ve strolled a beach in your birthday suit, giving a work presentation won’t faze you.
