30 Rock and its actors usually bring the laughs, but one cast member is going through a very serious ordeal. Grizz Chapman, who plays Tracy Morgan's character's sidekick on the hit NBC show, will reveal on the Dec. 15 episode of The Dr. Oz Show that he is suffering from severe hypertension and is in need of a kidney transplant.
But, before being eligible for the major surgery, Grizz needs to lose 75 pounds -- which he says he's ready to do. "Whatever I can do for the longevity of my life, I'm going to do," the actor told People.com.
But, even for a big guy like Grizz, the thought of a kidney transplant is scary. "I'm afraid to get one because of all the unknown things. You can put a kidney in your body – and somewhere down the line your body might reject it. I'm not saying I don't want to go through with it but it's a little scary. It's a big decision," he says.
Grizz says he went public with his health battle in hopes to send a message to the public. "At the end of the day if I can bring awareness to this problem, I'll do whatever I can do," he says, admitting that he didn't take the best care of himself. "I was a celebrity bodyguard. I didn't keep the best hours or choose the best food when I was on the road."
"Even though you don't feel anything you need to get an annual check-up," he warns. "It doesn't matter if you feel fine because I felt fine."
The actor has Dr. Oz and friends behind him -- and he appreciates all the help and love he's getting. "The cool thing is Dr. Oz is passionate about this," Grizz said. "He brought a doctor into my life that is going to help me. When you have other people in your corner, it makes it a little bit easier."
