Goodbye, '30 Rock'! Liz & Jack's Relationship Explained in GIFs

As the hit NBC comedy comes to an end, we look back at the evolution of the "bromance" between Tina Fey & Alec Baldwin's characters

Get the tissues ready! We all knew this day was coming, and alas, now it's here.  30 Rock fans will have to say their last goodbyes when the hit NBC comedy airs its final episode on Thursday night.

As the adventures of Liz Lemon come to an end, let's reflect on the many cultural lessons we've wrought from this distinguished show. Just kidding! Instead, let's take a look back at some of our favorite moments between Liz (Tina Fey) and Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin).

Their relationship, while unconventional, was at the heart of this clever show. While most sitcoms would find a way to forge a romance between the male and female protagonists, 30 Rock stayed true to its assertion that what we had here was a bromance. (Okay, it's not technically a bromance, since Tina is a woman -- but you get where we're going with this.)

But their platonic relationship was no less interesting to watch, especially when the show's writers fed the actors a steady stream of sexual innuendo to gobble up, while never, ever letting them consummate their relationship in that way. "Good God, Lemon," Jack told Liz. "Obviously to ruin what we have with a tawdry, yet expert sexual encounter would have been a mistake." Totally.

Still, these two were a joy to watch bicker, sorta like the Tracy and Hepburn of their generation! After all, he knows her so well...

Perhaps that's why he always knew their friendship would never go further than that. Or maybe Jack just enjoyed explaining it like this...

Sure, Jack had his moments of temptation. In his own way.

But let's face it, these two couldn't even pretend to kiss each other without Lemon looking hilariously uncomfortable.

And yes, their platonic relationship did bother Liz at times.

Even Jack admits it's a little strange, considering he slept with her best friend Jenna (Jane Krakowski) throughout season 3. But no, Liz, it wasn't you! (Although he would be the first to admit no romantic attraction to her whatsoever.)

In the end, these two proved to be genuinely good friends.

And this scene explains why...

So long, Liz and Jack. We'll miss your bromance. (But we're kind of glad Liz ended up with the adorable James Marsden!)
