Love French doors, but you're probably looking for window treatments that will give you a little privacy and shield your furniture from damaging rays of the sun while still letting light in. Here are a few options:
- Go to your craft store and get a glass frosting kit. Stencil a beautiful leaf pattern or scroll pattern onto the glass. It's very inexpensive and quick to do. If you don't like the look or make a mistake, the design easily scrapes off with a razor blade.
- Hang a thin curtain rod on top and bottom of each door panel, and hang sheers, silk shantung or muslin. Cinch the middle with a matching sash when you need more light and keep it full for maximum coverage. If you can't sew, take the premeasured, cut panels to a dry cleaner and ask them to make a hem or curtain rod pocket.
- Buy premade pleated shades or Roman shades that screen the light and protect the furniture. They'll add instant elegance to your French doors and can be easily removed and dry cleaned.
- Don't neglect the importance of your doorknobs. Your French doors instantly look more important with substantial doorknobs and hardware adorning them.
