5 Things to Know When Looking for the Perfect Bra

80% of American women are wearing the wrong bra size!! I heard this statistic for the first time on the Tyra Banks Show and I could not believe it. Truth is, I have been able to see it as a personal style consultant. For instance, in 2009, 3 out of 5 of my clients were not wearing the right bra size.

Most women do not realize their bra size often fluctuates or refuse to go higher in size. For those of us who are afraid to go higher in size, I would say this: wearing the right size truly gives you more control and support, which actually allow you to be more comfortable. Give it a try and please let me know. My sister used to wear 36C and, after a bra fitting, she learned she was in fact a 32EE. She was shocked at first but then realized her clothes looked better on her.

Your undergarments are the foundations of your wardrobe and the wrong bra shape and size can alter your body shape and clothing size. As the beginning of the year is usually a good time for resolutions, why not start with an easy one: finding the perfect bra. Treat yourself with a useful gift - and not too pricey - and look better in your clothes.

5 easy steps to assess a bra
1.The center of your bra should lie flat against your rib cage; a gap means the cup size is too small.
2. Straps should fit firmly without digging into your shoulders. Try a lager strap if loosening them leaves you without support.
3. Your bra should not ride up in the back. If it does, then the band size (36, 38 ect) is probably too large.
4. You should be able to take a deep breath with you bras fastened at the middle hook.
5. Try on several sizes for each style as they may vary by brand and by shape. You might be a 36C in one bra and 34D in another.

Get organized
- Get measured once a year because the size of your breasts and their position can fluctuate.
- Assess your lingerie drawer every year.
- Have a variety of bras to suit different occasions and outfits.

I hope those basics will help you assess and update your undergarments drawer in order to build the foundation of your perfect closet!
