National Bacon Day (August 31st) is meant to be a time of joyous celebration and happiness for all:
And while we applaud the efforts of Ford to help us live in a more bacon-ified world, the company's new bacon wrapped 2014 Ford Fiesta kind of makes our stomachs turn. It’s not that we don’t love bacon (trust us, we do) it’s just that it looks less like super-yummy bacon and more like someone tried peeling the skin off of a small 4-door to reveal some kind of rotting bacon flesh. (Apologies if you’re eating while reading this post, but we have a journalistic duty to report the facts -- and by "facts" we really mean "our opinions about bacon decals wrapped around a Ford.")
The bacon decals were designed by Allen Benton, CEO of Benton’s Country Hams, who is considered the “King of Bacon” (a title we’d love to challenge for). Other decorating options include two “Bacon Racing Stripes” down the side of the car and the “Side of Bacon,” featuring two individual strips of bacon that wrap around the rear tires of the car, for “individuals on a diet.”
We're not sure if this is the car for us, but we are impressed by its 41 mpg -- as well as Ford’s clear interest in the bacon community.
