Tai Chi

Relieves: Fatigue, stress, anxiety and pain

Chemo drugs alone are enough to leave you exhausted, but so can side effects like anemia, pain, depression and insomnia. Try to schedule 10-20 minutes of exercise daily, but if the mere thought exhausts you, try low-impact exercises that don’t require gym equipment. Gentle practices such as tai chi, stretching or yoga can be especially beneficial, says Sperber. Tai chi is often referred to as moving meditation because it matches slow movements with breathing and awareness. Practitioners believe the practice prevents the physical stagnation that leads to or worsens illness.

How-To: Tai chi instructors don’t need to be licensed but they do need a master teacher’s approval, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Search for a tai chi center in your area or inquire about classes at your local community center.
