Magazines and Newspapers

Between Thanksgiving and New Years, the average American increases their trash output by 25 percent. We tend to buy more and many of the items we buy are heavily packaged, and then there’s wrapping paper. If every American family wrapped just three presents in reused materials it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields, according to Carnegie Mellon’s Green Practices.

Using colorful pages ripped from magazines or the Sunday newspaper works really well for wrapping children’s presents. Get the kids to help you find fun magazine pages that their buddies will love. Search for pages that fit a friend’s passion: wine, horses, shoes, candy, etc. You can also cut out letters to create fun words and messages. For a really creative and custom gift add photos, playing cards, aluminum foil, even buttons.
