chime in nowIn Suzanne Collins' novel, Madge, the daughter of the District 12 mayor, is the one who gifts Katniss the iconic Mockingjay pin (a subtle symbol of subversion toward the Capitol) to wear in the Hunger Games. In the movie, however, there is no Madge; she was cut for streamlining purposes. And so Katniss' younger sister Prim (Willow Shields), whose place Katniss volunteers to take in the Games, is responsible for giving her the pin. "If Madge has to get thrown under the bus so you can make sure that an audience who hasn't read the books understands the devotion between Katniss and Prim, then that's what you do," producer Nina Jacobson told EW. In other words: Sorry, Madge fans.
