Ugly Betty fans everywhere are saddened by the news that ABC has decided to cancel the show after four seasons. Network president Steve McPherson and Betty creator Silvio Horta have released this joint statement:
"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
There's been no statement yet from the show's star, America Ferrera, but other cast members have expressed their disappointment over the end of the show.
Anna Ortiz, who plays Betty's sister, told E! News, "I'm saddened by the news but it's not unexpected. I'm really proud of this season, and I'm proud to be going out on a high note. I think the fact that we stayed on this long is because of the fan support and their love for the show. I love them for that. And I love my Ugly Betty family. I will miss them dearly."
Eric Mabius, who plays the Mode magazine boss, said: "Although I am sad that it will be the last season of Ugly Betty, I am so grateful to the fans for tuning in each week and their amazing support through the years for the show. To be able to play Daniel Meade has been an incredible experience and to work with such a talented cast, crew, producers and network has been such an honor."
Mark Indelicato, 15, who plays Betty's nephew, reacted to the news: "It has been an amazing four years. I've learned so much from the wonderful actors I have worked with, it's sad to see this come so unexpectedly, but I think that we all recognize the tremendous work that we have done, and am very grateful for that."
