Acai Berry Beauty Products You Can Afford

Natural, antioxidant-packed skincare, haircare, makeup at low prices

As a bit of health nut, I was intrigued a couple of years ago when this tiny miracle fruit, the acai berry, was getting major buzz for its anti-aging, weight loss, and healing properties. Diet drinks and supplements were suddenly everywhere, and it was only natural that acai berries would soon take over the beauty world, with acai popping up in face and body lotions, lip balms, and even shampoos. My only quibble back then was that acai products seemed to be on the pricey side, with plenty of high end varieties around that cost more than I'd normally spend on products.

But that is no longer the case, I'm happy to report! There are plenty of affordable beauty lines that have embraced the ingredient. Acai berries' magic powers lie in the fact that they're packed with antioxidants, which help the body fight oxidative stress caused by free radicals in the air and can protect skin and hair from damage and aging. Here are a few that feel great, smell even better, and won't break your bank!

Renewing skin cream: The Grape Acai Berry Antioxidant Face Cream by Produce Organic Beauty (pictured, $32 at Amazon) renews and regenerates the skin, particularly if you have sun damage.
Juicy lip balm: Burt's Bees Rejuvenating Lip Balm in Acai Berry ($2.99 at Walgreens) is 100% natural and offers hydration and smoothing for your chapped, winter-weary lips.
Sweet soap: Freshen up your bathroom with South of France's Acai Pomegranate Soap Bar ($4.61 on iHerb.com); it's longlasting, delicious-smelling and will keep your hands and skin soft.
Gentle hair cleanser: Herbal Essences from Clairol has an amazing Color Me Happy Shampoo ($3.49 at Ulta) which protects and adds shine and gloss to color-treated or damaged hair.
Cheeky lip color: Stila's Acai Crush Lip & Cheek Stain ($24 at Stila) does double-duty in your makeup bag and has a vibrant color and hydrating texture.

Will these products take years off your life? Probably not. But will they hydrate your skin, hair and lips, protect you from free radical damage, and keep you well under your beauty budget? Most definitely!

Would you buy beauty products made with an anti-aging “super fruit”? Chime in!
