Maybe the rock gods were pissed that American Idol was using their music.
Last night, about two hours before American Idol was going to air live from CBS Television City studios, Idol's stage manager Debbie Williams fell from the lighted retractable staircase when it moved too quickly. One of the large towers on the show's set also fell over, leaving broken glass all over the stage.
FOX, Freemantle Media North America and 19 Entertainment released a joint statement, saying, "During rehearsal today a crew member had a mishap on set and was immediately taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. We have no further information at this time."
Another crew member told People.com that Debbie was hurt pretty bad, with "very deep gash down to the bone" in one leg that required stitches. But right after Idol's broadcast, host Ryan Seacrest Twittered that Debbie was "doing much better."
You would have never known that the contestants didn't get a chance to have their dress rehearsal, as the show went very smoothly. But sources say that the scene inside the studio, minutes before airtime, was chaotic. Audience members were not allowed into the studio until 20 minutes before show went live, and the staff was hurrying everyone to seats, yelling, "Ignore your tickets. Just grab a seat wherever you can!"
I actually thought it was one of Idol's best shows of this season. You?
