Celebrity fights with the paparazzi are now becoming something of a Hollywood standard. From Britney Spears to Sean Penn to Woody Harrelson, many stars just can't hide their frustration with relentless photographers. Now we can add American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert to the list of tabloid throwdowns.
TMZ.com reports that a paparazzo filed a report with the Miami Beach Police Department accusing Lambert, 28, of misdemeanor battery. The police report states that the singer grabbed the photographer's backpack "where the camera was placed" and "wrestled (him) forcefully to the ground."
But, as TMZ notes, in a photograph taken of the scuffle, the camera was clearly in the photographer's hand, not in a backpack as the report states. The report also notes that the man making the claims had no visible "bruises or lacerations."
Lambert took to his Twitter to defend himself in the matter. "Eeew paparazzi killed my peaceful afternoon on the beach! #howisthisok?" he posted yesterday. Then the "If I Had You" singer followed up with more tweets. "They're real good at provoking, but there ain't any pics or video of the b.s. they spew out... Haha well... I lost my temper for a sec but wow it felt great lol MIAMI!!!" he wrote. "Battery? Nope. I attempted to grab a camera, no punches were thrown and no one was on the ground...It was literally harmless. If embarrassment is a crime- thats all I'm guilty of." Lambert even joked from his Twitter about the action shots of their run-in. "Hahha the photos are hilarious !! Lol please everyone forgive me for that hat. -- I was attempting a disguise -- clearly failed. Hahah."
If Lambert is, in fact, convicted, he could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Detectives are still deciding whether the case will be turned over to the State's Attorney. If so, they would then make the call on whether to prosecute Lambert.
