Adam Levine's recent split from Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne Vyalitsyna came as a shock to many people -- including, according to a new report, Levine himself!
A Levine pal tells Us Weekly that the 33-year-old Maroon 5 frontman was "blindsided" by Vyalitsyna's April 2 statement to People, in which she confirmed that she and Adam had "decided to separate in an amicable and supportive manner."
Calling the move a "cheap shot," Levine's friend adds, "Anne didn't want to make it look like he broke up with her."
"Adam's heartbroken," says another friend of the 33-year-old singer and Voice coach. "He wasn't even fully sure they were really broken up."
While the two looked happy and very together when Levine performed during Vyalitsyna's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show back in November, a pal of the model says that things weren't as peachy as they seemed.
"Anne said he didn't pay her enough attention," Vyalitsyna's friend says, while another insider cites Levine's unwillingness to tie the knot as the reason for the breakup.
"As a woman, you get to a point where you want to get married," the source explains. "Adam wasn't ready to take that step."
Post-split, Levine is focusing on his work on The Voice, his new gig on American Horror Story and the future of Maroon 5. But when he is ready to date again, we're sure there will be no shortage of ladies -- including Jennifer Love Hewitt -- who would glady help the musician get over his heartbreak.
