Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch died on May 4 at age 47, Rolling Stone reports. Yauch (who was also known as MCA) had been diagnosed with cancer after discovering a tumor in his left salivary gland in 2009, and his health issues caused him to sit out of Beastie Boys' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Yauch co-founded the Grammy-winning Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz. A practicing Buddhist who was involved with the movement to free Tibet, Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and 14-year-old daughter, Tenzin. "Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist who I loved dearly," said hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, who managed the band in their early years. "He will be missed by all of us."
