Add MUFAs to Melt Meno-Pot

Monounsaturated fats, or MUFAs, include oils, olives, avocados and nuts. These healthy fats have been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, a major concern for menopausal women -- and help ladies lose weight around their mid-section. “Studies have found that people who incorporate more mono-unsaturated fats in their diets have less belly fat,” explains McIndoo. Why? Scientists believe that a MUFA-rich diet naturally prevents fat from depositing in people’s midsections, whereas a diet rich in carbohydrates promotes weight gain in that area. “The trick to adding the fats to your diet is using them in place of unhealthy fats,” says McIndoo. “So, use canola oil instead of butter. Spoon sliced avocado in your salad instead of a creamy salad dressing. Snack on a few walnuts or an ounce of chocolate instead of a candy bar. Aim to replace half of your daily fats with healthy ones like MUFAs.”
