ADHD Rates Are Up -- 1 in 10 Kids Are Diagnosed With It

A new survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more parents report that their kids have ADHD than ever before. From 2003 to 2008, the study found an increase in ADHD of about 22 percent -- that's nearly 1 million more kids diagnosed with the neurobehavioral disorder. It also found that two-thirds of them are taking medication for it.

The reasoning behind the increase? Some doctors say it’s because of more awareness and better screening, but others suggest that perhaps the disorder is being overdiagnosed, since there's no known biological reason for ADHD to become more prevalent.
