Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif's divorce proceedings have taken a nasty turn. Just one month ago, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars were trying to work things out, calling their separation "a bump in the road." Now they're locked in a heated custody battle -- with Maloof, 51, claiming that Nassif, 50, has physically abused their three sons.
In a court document filed this week, Maloof reports two incidents of her husband lashing out at Gavin, 9, and twins Christian and Collin, 6. The filing claims that on Thursday afternoon, Nassif was driving the boys home from school when they began fighting, and he responded by reaching into the backseat and choking one of them. Later that same day, he allegedly spanked one of the children and "threw him in the corner" as punishment for misbehaving during his bath. Along with Maloof, two other witnesses -- a family friend and an employe -- also filed court documents accusing Nassif of violent tendencies.
As a result of the accusations, Maloof was awarded temporary custody of the three children. However, the court hearing took place behind Nassif's back, and he is denying all the charges.
"This smacks of underhandedness. Adrienne wasn't even present when this allegedly occurred," Nassif's lawyer told TMZ. "It is a sad day when parents have to stoop to the level of making false allegations against another parent."
Nassif's lawyer calls Maloof's accusations "gamesmanship at its worst," but she's not exactly playing the game alone. In his own court declaration, Paul said that he chose to leave Adrienne after an incident where she hit him in the face and chest, kicked him in the legs and "screamed that I was a 'horrible father.'" He also claimed that his wife verbally and physically abused him on a regular basis in front of their children.
In her divorce filing, Maloof said that her ex was a negligent parent with a violent temper, and that "the children are afraid of him."
Right now, Adrienne is seeking primary custody of the children, while Paul has requested joint custody. Nassif filed for divorce in August after ten years of marriage.
