Advice from 'Jersey Couture': What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Kimberly Scali and Christina Gambale say it's all about the invitation

Summer is here and that means hello, wedding season! Your invitations are piled up and not only do you need to send in your response cards, but you need to start shopping. Where do you start? We went straight to the experts, Kimberly Scali and Christina Gambale, stars of Oxygen's Jersey Couture (Tuesdays 10/9c), clothing boutique owners and style gurus. Before you make a dress purchase for that summer wedding you're invited to, consider these tips...

Take your wardrobe cue from the invitation.
The invitation sets the mood for the wedding. It's the first reflection on the type of affair your bride and groom will be hosting.

Casual summer weddings, such as a barbecues, beach outings or garden affairs call for short summer dresses or flowy maxi dresses with prints. Pair 'em with stylish sandals (for maxi dresses, the higher the better). A high heel elongates the body and adds height. Remember, adding height equals skinny! Note: wedges work great for sand and grass. No one likes their stilts sinking into the dirt! Add a clutch bag and simple jewelry and your ready to go!

Skip the little black dress.
A daytime casual summer wedding is the perfect time to experiment with pretty shades of color such as this year's favorite: yellow!

There's no time like summer time for colorful dresses that pop. Not interested in color? Try neutrals such as cream, champagne or light gray. These airy colors are both trendy yet chic!

If the wedding is after 6 p.m., go with a long gown.
When this invitation arrives think glam! This is your chance to pull out all the stops. Think floor-length, old Hollywood. Remember, although it may be black-tie, you don't need a black gown. Consider deep purples, sapphires or even chocolates. Rich colors prove to be bolder than others. One-shoulder dresses and those with trumpet silhouettes are also hot this season.

Accessories can make or break your look.
Always remember that! If your dress has more emphasis on fabrics than intricate detail, go with bold jewelry. If the dress already has a lot of detail, then the accessories are practically built in, so avoid overdoing it!

Confidence is the most important thing.
Whatever you wear and whatever the event remember, confidence is key. If you don't feel good, people will notice. Own the room and own your look. Be Sassy, Be you!
