This past fall, I finally invested in a pair of Hunter wellie boots ($125 normally, though I was able to score mine for 40% off — steal!) and was thrilled when I realized that I could use them as snow boots too. Just by adding warm fleece socks inside my rain boots, I've got comfy, weather-proof boots that are made to withstand the elements, and just so happen to look great with skirts, leggings or skinny pants and a peacoat.
If you can't afford Hunters, there are loads of other rubber rain boots out there that let you pull off this dual-season sock move. These adorable Animal-Print Rain Boots are just $34.99 at Overstock.com. I love that the pattern hides any dirt or scuffing; they'll also make a fun, funky complement to your standard black or camel wool coat.
If polka dots are your taste, the black and white Ditsy Dots rain boot ($24.99 at Target.com) are playful and sweet. These boots are cut a bit wider, which is excellent for squeezing in fleece sock inserts (and Target has a pair for just $9.99).
Not a fan of bold patterns? These charcoal Chooka Herringbone boots ($64.50 at Piperlime.com) are a sophisticated style bargain. They're ideal for chilly autumn months, but hold up well in sleet and snow too.
How much is too much for you to spend on a pair of all-weather boots? Chime in!
