Alec Baldwin Jokes with David Letterman About Paparazzi Run-in

Alec Baldwin has no problem talking about his recent run-in with the paparazzi.

The Rock of Ages star, who got into a skirmish with a photographer outside of Manhattan's City Hall on Tuesday, went on the Late Show with David Letterman  Wednesday night knowing the comedic host was going to bring up the well-publicized fight.

"Let's get to it, shall we?" Baldwin, 54, told Letterman. "You were obviously burning to hold up the cover of the Daily News."

The newspaper in question boasted a cover photo of Baldwin pushing the photographer under the headline "30 Rocky."

"I mean," the host began, "there's a very fine line because... they have this picture, somebody took this picture, so what are they going to do? They're going to publish it. But the picture, without knowing the true story, tells a tale that's often not true."

Photographer Marcus Santos told the Daily News that he was doing his job -- taking photos of Baldwin and his fiancee Hilaria Thomas leaving the City Marriage License Bureau -- when the Emmy winner allegedly punched him.

Of course according to Baldwin, he was the one who was almost hit in the face by the aggressive paparazzo's camera earlier in the morning, and his rep maintains that no punches were thrown.

"Any subsequent physical contact was simply Alec protecting himself," his rep told E! News.

But David Letterman was determined to hear the story first-hand. "If this was me," the Late Show host continued, "I mean, look at how good you look! This is the guy who stuffed the camera right in your face... what's this guy's name?"

Avoiding Letterman's question, Baldwin replied: "I think you can see I'm forming the letter with my mouth. And what I'm saying is...'What F-stop are you on with the camera?' And he said, 'I'm on a something,' and I said, 'That's not the F-stop...You have to set the camera on the right F-stop!'"
