A while ago at iVillage, we declared that boasting about seemingly impossibly fit post-baby bodies is the worst celebrity trend ever. While many of our readers agreed with us (one commented that the magazine covers of new moms like Kendra Wilkinson and Kourtney Kardashian in bikinis "only leads to poor self-esteem at a time when a woman is already feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable!!"), there's a celebrity mom who disagrees with a current criticism.
Bethenny Frankel, who introduced her daughter Bryn to the world on May 8, is catching flack for posing in a size 4 bathing suit for Us Weekly and telling the magazine that she's already lost 29 of the 35 lbs. she gained during her pregnancy. This just three weeks after giving birth!
But her Real Housewives of New York City costar Alex McCord (who has received her fair share of criticism as well when she admitted she drank while she was pregnant) is coming to her pal and costar's defense. "People who are bugging her about it are reprehensible," McCord tells USMagazine.com, adding that it's "absolutely ridiculous to bother her about this. She is a brand-new mommy."
"I have been through this. I have two children; I gained about 45 lbs. with my first and it was all gone within less than a month," McCord said about her own post-pregnancy experience. " I mean, two weeks after Francois was born I was in (pre-pregnancy jeans)."
So, what is McCord's explanation for how women like herself and Frankel shed their weight so quickly after giving birth? "There are some people who win the genetic lottery, and it melts off," she says.
