British actor Alex Pettyfer holds nothing back in a recent interview with VMAN magazine, stating that he finds Los Angeles to be an "insidious pool where nearly everyone lives in fear." In case we weren't clear on his feelings about the city, he elaborates, "Geographically it's fantastic: in a half hour, you can be on the beach in one direction, go snowboarding in another, or go out into the desert. But socially it's disgusting."
The star of Beastly, which came out in the U.S. last month, is only 21 years old -- but already he's earned a reputation in Hollywood for being a bad boy. His relationship with Glee star Dianna Agron spawned many engagement rumors but then ended abruptly because, a source says, Pettyfer was "a psycho loose cannon." Agron was reportedly so afraid of him that she moved out of the home they shared and was living in a hotel under an alias.
In the VMAN interview, Pettyfer refers to Los Angeles as a "s*** hole," and uses a not-so-nice moniker to describe the people who live there. He also embraces the bad-boy rep he's cultivating. "I've heard I've been called a bad boy, or difficult," he tells the mag. "Maybe that's because I don't take any bulls***."
One might think that the handsome young actor at least finds some joy in the acting work he's doing, but he rails on that as well, saying: "Being an actor is like being in prison. You go, you serve your time, you try and replicate Johnny Depp's career and then you move to Paris." (Something tells us the people of Los Angeles would be just fine with that.)
And at least Johnny Depp appears to derive some enjoyment from his career. Perhaps Pettyfer should try to replicate that part of the Depp persona. He might have a little bit more fun!
