Alexa Chung: The Hottest TV Host You Aren't Watching ... Yet

If you don't know the name Alexa Chung you're not alone. The 26-year-old host of MTV's It's On with Alexa Chung first scored success as a model and TV host in her native England before being pulled stateside to resurrect MTV's slumping weekday lineup.

With the network's flagship show Total Request Live going off the air nearly a year ago, MTV still needed to maintain the loyal teen audience that flocked to its Times Square studios and to television sets every afternoon.

So, why Alexa and not someone who was already a household name? "We wanted someone who spoke from the heart and who had a personality. She has a real cool, casual vibe," says Tim Healy, executive producer of It's On with Alexa Chung, about pulling Chung across the pond to host the 30-minute celeb chatfest every weekday at 3:30 p.m. ET. "There's really no bullsh*t with Alexa. She's a real person and she's got real likes and dislikes, and I think the viewers pick up on that."

"She's so candid. Her sense of humor is so dry -- she's not like an 'LOL' type of person, and [celebrities] are really open and honest with her." 22-year-old Ashley Sauerhof tells iVillage about her appeal.

On Nov. 9, Chung sat down with Rihanna and had a peer-to-peer chat about her recent struggle with domestic violence.  The interview came off more like two girlfriends getting to know each other rather than a news special, which can be credited to Chung's breezy sense of self. What she lacks in polish she makes up for in spunk.

If you're a mom or dad of a kid between the ages of 12 and 22 there's a good chance they're already tuning in to It's On every afternoon, but as a parent you might want to check out, too.  Beyond learning "what the kids are talking about" you might even have some extra fodder for the dinner table.  Granted, your kids might give you a strange look when you bring up the cast of Glee playing musical chairs, but it's better than the usual "what'd you do you in school today?" "...nothing." conversation.
