She wants girls and women everywhere -- all of us -- to “feel that sauciness,” to “feel ... that little bit of attitude,” to feel empowered to just be ourselves. That desire is the force behind her new song, "Girl on Fire," the title track of her fifth and upcoming album which will be released Nov. 27, and the overall theme for her exciting Guest Editor week.
“I just hope it empowers you to just be yourself ... and be like, yeah, I am actually on fire. You want to know why? Because I juggle all these things and I take care of all of this and I am a wonderful, nice, kind person while I’m doing it ... and that makes you a girl on fire,” she told us.
Listen to Alicia talk about that “sauciness” and “attitude” we all could probably use a little bit more of and see why we high-fived here:
One of the most provocative questions we received from the iVillage community to ask Alicia was how hard was it to mesh being an artist with being a mom. (Her son, Egypt, just celebrated his second birthday!) She called it an “interesting journey,” confessing that in those early days of motherhood, it was a “foreign land.”
“I was like, ‘What, who am I? What do I do? How am I supposed to go do that ever again?” How much can you relate to that -- although most of us don’t have to transition from motherhood to performing for thousands of fans at concerts and millions more on television.
“What’s happened is I’ve become more focused and clear about what I will say yes to and what I won’t, and that’s a sense of empowerment too to make your own choice," she said.
It sure is! Alicia, I'd like to give you another high five for that!
Be sure to check back tomorrow when Alicia delves into her risk-taking fashion style, and we share a special surprise with the singing legend that takes her breath away!
