Alicia Silverstone Reunites with 'Clueless' Director

When we first heard the phrase "vampire romantic comedy," we admit we were skeptical -- until we learned that director Amy Heckerling, of Clueless and Fast Times at Ridgemont High fame, was behind it. And now that she's cast Clueless pal Alicia Silverstone as the lead in Vamps, we've got one more reason to get psyched.

The movie is basically Sex and the City meets Twilight: Two vampire gal pals (Silverstone and Krysten Ritter) enjoy a hard-partying life in New York City, until both risk their immortality for a shot at true love. If the film is a hit, it would mark a major comeback for 33-year-old Silverstone, who's weathered a bad-luck streak for the past decade, appearing in failed TV pilots (and the quickly cancelled series Miss Match). In fact, she was recently named one of Gawker's top Five Actors Who Almost Made It (ouch!). But Silverstone hasn't lost her acting chops; she's currently getting rave reviews in the Broadway production Time Stands Still, costarring Laura Linney. A smart, timely rom-com may be just what Silverstone needs to get back on her feet -- and if she gets to bite hot men in the process, all the better!

Vamps starts shooting in April, so more casting news may be coming. Is it too much to hope for an appearance by Silverstone's Clueless costar Paul Rudd?
