Allison Williams is more than just one of the stars of the Golden Globe-winning HBO series Girls. She's also the daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, who is a self-proclaimed fan of her series.
As Chelsea Handler points out during Allsion's recent visit to Chelsea Lately, one would think that the father-daughter time during the actress' sex scenes on the show would get a bit awkward. According to the Girls star, though, it's not that strange...or is it?
"He does watch the show. A lot of people seem to think that's weird, but he's mostly just proud. Maybe it's weird," she says in the above clip with a laugh. When Handler points out that it would be strange if Williams and her father watched her recent sex scene (where Williams' character Marnie hooks up with a gay guy) together, the Girls star admits, "Which I did."
Dad wasn't the only one privy to sitting through the racy scenes with Williams! She told Lately that she has actually watched every sex scene she's ever had with her entire family. Everyone's reaction? "People [were] vomiting in their chairs," she said with a dry delivery.
Despite Girls pushing the envelope, Williams is proud to report that her entire family has embraced her taking on this breakthrough role. Even her grandmother has watched the show's first season, and it turns out that the Williams matriarch had a change of heart about its content.
"[My grandmother] watched the first episode and she was like, 'This is feminism?,' and by the end of the season she was like, 'This is feminism.' The tone changed completely; she was really psyched about it," Williams says.
Girls recently won a Golden Globe for best television series (comedy or musical) and its star and creator, Lena Dunham, won best performance by an actress in a television series (comedy or musical). Williams says she was surprised by both wins, but she had been rooting for Dunham to win the acting Globe.
"She just is so -- it gets overused -- but she's really so brave," Williams says. "It would be one thing to write this, honestly, it would be another thing to act it out. It would be another thing to direct other people acting our your weird honest fantasies, and then to be in charge of the whole thing, and then also just to be naked."
