While the majority of children on gluten-free diets have been diagnosed with celiac disease, others have a gluten sensitivity or allergy. Also, though no studies have proven this, many parents who have children with autism say their kids’ symptoms such as social behavior improved when they were put on a gluten-free diet. However, this theory remains controversial.
