Always in Your Heart Photo Ornaments


You'll need:

  • Block of polymer clay (such as Fimo) in red, pink or magenta
  • Rolling pin
  • 5-inch and 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutters (like Wilton's From the Heart Nesting Metal Cutters)
  • Plastic straw
  • Baking sheet lined with aluminum foil
  • Clear tacky glue
  • Photo of your child, trimmed to 2 x 2 inches (we recommend a close-up of her face)
  • Thick-tipped paint marker in white or silver
  • 6-inch length of organza ribbon

  1. Preheat oven to temperature recommended on package of polymer clay.
  2. Work clay with hands until malleable. With rolling pin, roll out clay, as you would cookie dough, to 1/8-inch thick.
  3. Using larger cookie cutter, cut out two heart shapes from clay. Using smaller cookie cutter, cut out a heart from the center of one large heart. Discard the small heart.
  4. Stack the two large hearts so that they align exactly, with the hollow-centered one on top. Using plastic straw, make a hole at the top of the hearts.
  5. Separate hearts and place them on baking sheet; bake in oven for 10 minutes. Remove and cool.
  6. Glue the photo of your child to the center of the solid heart shape. Apply glue around the top edge of the solid heart and affix hollow heart on top. Let dry.
  7. Using paint marker, decorate heart with dots. If desired, write a Valentine's message, such as "I love you!"
  8. Thread organza ribbon through hole in heart and tie to form a loop.
