Doane Gregory/20th Century Fox
It's a title that’s been held by the likes of Parker Posey, Chloe Sevigny and, most recently, Juno’s Ellen Page. Now, judging from film festival buzz, the crown is about to be passed.
Amanda Seyfried, of course, costarred in last year's mega-hit Mamma Mia!, in which she sang sweetly, glowed on cue, and got the heck out of the way whenever Meryl Streep was in the shot. Savvy filmgoers will also remember her as Karen, the dim bulb with the psychic ability to tell when it’s raining ("It’s like I have ESPN or something!") in 2004’s Mean Girls. She's also done lots of TV (notably Big Love and Veronica Mars).
But her next two films promise to show a new, edgier side to the actress. First up is Jennifer’s Body, Diablo Cody’s eagerly anticipated horror-comedy starring Megan Fox as a killer cheerleader. Seyfried plays her nerdy best friend – and, according to some reports, love interest. Then there’s the movie that will have jaws REALLY dropping: Chloe, starring Seyfried as a high-class escort who's hired by Julianne Moore to seduce her cheating husband. The film includes a steamy sex scene between Moore and Seyfried, which a New York Post reviewer described as "wildly improbable" – but very entertaining.
Sounds like it's time to learn how to pronounce Amanda's name. According to Wikipedia, it's "sigh-frid."
