'Glee' Star Amber Riley: How (and Why) I Dropped Two Dress Sizes

The actress started to lose the weight after discovering that unhealthy eating was causing chronic stomach pains

Amber Riley has been causing quite a stir in the Glee costume department, as the 26-year-old has managed to drop two dress sizes in seven months! The actress, who plays Mercedes Jones in Fox's hit musical drama, debuted her new look at the NAACP Image Awards on Feb. 17 in a slimming blue Theia sequin gown.

But Riley didn't decide to lose the weight because she wanted to have a more "Hollywood" figure. Last summer she started experiencing chronic stomach pains, and discovered that unhealthy eating was the cause.

"I decided I was going to make a change and eat healthier," Riley tells People. "I'm a lot more comfortable in dresses, especially gowns."

So how did she manage to bid adieu to the extra pounds? Riley says she simply cut out the burgers and fast food that "were attacking my stomach." She's stuck to her diet and exercise plan, and has now hit her own personal weight loss milestone: "I dropped two dress sizes!" she exclaims.

Riley has always been proud and confident about her body shape, so she made it clear that her decision was based on her own needs and not society's mandate that she become stick-thin.

"I've always been comfortable with my size," says Riley. "I just decided it was time to get healthy."

And, as we mentioned earlier, her slimmer figure has meant some changes for her costumes on Glee. "We had to revamp the wardrobe," she says. "They bought a lot of new clothes for me and we have to take in a lot of my pants and dresses."
