Reality Shows Fight Over Ellen

So You Think You Can Dance judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is one of the few folks not happy to see Ellen DeGeneres joining American Idol.

Lythgoe feels Idol "stole" DeGeneres away from SYTYCD and he thinks the addition of Abdul to the Fox dancing show would be a "great idea."

If DeGeneres had an offer for a job from both shows, you can't blame her for going with the most popular show on television. SYTYCD is a great, fun show, but it's nowhere near Idol’s level and never will be.

Lythgoe isn't closing the door on having DeGeneres on SYTYCD at some point, in case she didn’t have enough to juggle between hosting a syndicated talk show and her new Idol position starting in January.

Just because DeGeneres is going to Idol doesn’t mean the ex-Idol producer didn't have nice things to say about the addition.

"What it does is give the public, who are the people who decide in the end who is crowned the victor, a voice on the judges panel and they have never had that before," Lythgoe told EW at the Creative Arts Emmys in Los Angeles. "They already have industry experts, musicians and producers and songwriters represented and Ellen will be that judge who comes at it from a fan perspective. She loves music and she will be able to speak about what people will like and what would sound good on the radio. And she's funny. And I also think she is strong enough to keep Simon in his place, which I am always worried about."
