The first round of Hollywood started with 172 hopefuls. We watched it drop to 56 and by the end -- 40. This was all made possible within an hour's time through the beauty of television, thank God. Can you imagine sitting through all of them? Here's the thing, I keep gearing myself up for each episode of AI... and it's been pretty much a let down. I'm an extreme optimist, so I still have faith. I'm just getting a little antsy. Each contestant had 30 seconds to prove themselves. Ladies first... then, the gents. Those who passed the solo test matched up for group auditions. Many were asked to go home while on stage with their group, but some were given one last consideration. By the end, there were three rooms. I'm sure you're like me - looking at who's in each room and being like, they're definitely in! Or see ya! The singers from two of the rooms we'll see tomorrow. The others weren't given any more chances. You had to know the outcome by how the judges acted entering each room. I mean, Randy made the comment to put the contestants out of their misery. I know the Dawg has been more aggressive over this past season, but he wouldn't say something like that at this moment. And Paula, in the other room with her somber poker face -- then she belts out, "congratulations!" Simon on the other hand just let the ones going home have it. The most entertaining performance of the night was during the group round.
