Last week was not the only shocker in this season's American Idol. There was yet another surprising elimination Thursday night, but without a judges' save as a possibility, the contestant with the lowest votes had no chance of remaining in the competition.
Although bottom-three regulars Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh were considered frontrunners to get the boot, they were joined by a first-timer in the hot seat: Colton Dixon.
Ultimately, it wasn't the two girls who were sent but home, but Dixon who was told he would not be this year's American Idol.
"You'll make many records," judge Jennifer Lopez assured him. Added Randy Jackson: "You have a huge career ahead of you."
Dixon wasn't completely despondent like previous contestants eliminated from the show. He winked at the audience and reminded his fans that they hadn't heard the last of him. Then he addressed the judges.
"I need to apologize," he told the judges about his performances of "Bad Romance" and "September" Wednesday night. "I wasn't myself last night, and I get it, and I appreciate what you told me last night. I'll take that when I'm making a record."
The top six contestants are: Testone, Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips and Skyler Laine.
