American Idol is nearing the end, which means another emotional elimination as the competition hurtles toward its May 23 finale. After Thursday night's results show, the season is officially down to four hopeful contestants.
First, three contenders were deemed safe: Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, and Jessica Sanchez were all told they had survived to sing another week. The trio of frontrunners were unsurprisingly spared from too much drama as they watched their friends, Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine, land in the bottom two.
Neither of the singers had a bad '60s night (in fact, mentor Jimmy Iovine said Hollie sang Tina Turner better than Jessica did), but after the votes were counted, host Ryan Seacrest announced that Skylar, the season's sole country singer, was going home.
Sadly, Skylar was booted off the show the same night as country star and Idol alum Carrie Underwood returned to the show to perform the title track of her new album, Blown Away.
After a tearful hug between the bottom two contestants, Skylar turned to Hollie and said: "Rock it out," as she received a standing ovation from the crowd and judges.
The top four contestants are down to two guys and two ladies: Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.
