For months, the question "Who should replace Simon Cowell?" has circulated in Hollywood. Today, American Idol fans wonder who will take over for Simon, Ellen DeGeneres, and Kara DioGuardi?!? Last night, DeGeneres announced her resignation from Idol after one season. Meanwhile, a TMZ report claims DioGuardi has been let go by Fox and will be vacating the judging team, as well.
This will be one very suspenseful weekend, according to EW.com, as Fox is reportedly looking to make a "splashy announcement...on Monday morning" regarding some big names who will be taking over as judges.
Speculation started months ago with all the talk of Howard Stern stepping in, but with no replacements announced yet, it's still anyone's guess -- although mulitple outlets now say they've confirmed with Idol sources that Jennifer Lopez will join Randy Jackson and whomever else the network taps as a replacement. No confirmation yet on whether Fox wants to return to the original format of three judges, or stick to four.
According to People, a source claims that Lopez "closed a deal to become a permanent judge" and that the 41-year-old singer/actress/supermom is "excited about it."
Jessica Simpson is another celeb said to be in serious talks with Idol producers. TMZ says Simpson, a reality-TV veteran (Newlyweds, The Price of Beauty), has reportedly had "several meetings" and there is allegedly "mutual interest" from Fox.
The case is hardly closed, though! Sir Elton John and Justin Timberlake have each reportedly met with the show's producers, but as EW.com notes, those talks actually occurred "months ago." Just last week, it was reported that crooners Chris Isaak and Harry Connick, Jr. were also in talks to join Idol.
And just in case all these big names aren't enough to make your head spin, new rumors have surfaced that Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler could be a new judge, too. The New York Daily News claims Tyler has bumped a hopeful Bret Michaels for the top spot.
A whole new judging panel would inject the series, which suffered flagging ratings of late, with a major dose of excitement. We can't wait to hear the big announcement!
