Phillip Phillips is finally ready to celebrate his American Idol win now that he's on the road to recovery.
As viewers who watched the last season of Idol may remember, Phillips had a shocking eight surgeries during the competition to treat chronic kidney problems. And last Wednesday the latest American Idol champion, 21, had one more surgery to remove kidney stones that were too large for the singer-songwriter to pass on his own.
"I'm out of the hospital and back to work!" Phillips tells E! News. "Looking forward to the future."
The Georgia-bred musician, who beat out runner-up Jessica Sanchez in last month's emotional finale, has many reasons to look forward to his future -- including the album he'll be working on as part of his Idol victory.
Phillips should also be proud of the dedication he showed by overcoming his health struggles to win the hearts of American Idol voters around the country. After this final six-and-a-half hour surgery, Phillips was released from the Los Angeles hospital on Sunday.
But one thing the future doesn't hold for Phillips is much down time. The singer has only a couple of weeks to rest and then he must prepare for his busy summer tour that includes 45 shows. On July 6, he's scheduled to kick off the American Idols Live concert in Detroit, along with the season's other top 10 contestants.
