'Idol' Runner-Up Crystal Bowersox Signs Record Deal

The single mom lost the American Idol crown to Lee DeWyze, but she's in the music industry to stay

Let's be honest: We never had any doubt that American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox would get her shot in the professional music biz, but it's still comforting to know you don't have to take home the crown to be a winner.

Bowersox, who came in second to Lee DeWyze at the end of the show's ninth season, just signed her very own record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records to release her debut album later this year. The album is sure to have that classic folk-rock Mama Sox feel that had us cheering for the 24-year-old all season long.

"I'm really grateful to be given this opportunity to make an album and let people hear my music, and I'm looking forward to working with all of the folks at 19/Jive," Bowersox said in a statement Monday.

If you can't wait for the album to come out to get your Bowersox fix, you can catch the mom on tour with Idol's other finalists, as the American Idol Live! Tour kicks off a 49-show run in Detroit on July 1.
