Pop Quiz: When might you find both Michael Jackson and Miley Cyrus winning awards on a stage that will host a performance by Lady Gaga? No, it's not the beginning of a strange joke. It's the 2009 American Music Awards!
The American Music Awards aren't music's biggest night in the way that the Emmys are "TV's biggest night" (that honor would probably go to the Grammys), but this year's show is bound to have some noteworthy moments.
In addition to the aforementioned nominees and performer, the event will grant Taylor Swift the chance to wipe The Great Interruption off her award-show slate: she's up for a total of six awards.
Right behind Taylor with the most nominations this year is the late Michael Jackson, who racked up four nods, including Artist of The Year. He'll be vying for the title with fellow contenders Eminem, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and Taylor Swift.
Swift's fellow teen sensation, Miley Cyrus, will be duking it out with herself (and some vampires) in the category of Best Soundtrack. The nominees in that category are: Hannah Montana: The Movie, Hannah Montana 3 and the Twilight Soundtrack.
As for performers at the AMAs, Alicia Keys, American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, Black Eyed Peas and Jennifer Lopez will all be taking the stage.
Voting for the awards is open to all music fans and is live now at the AMAs Web site. The show will air on ABC Sunday, November 22 at 8 p.m.
